HISTORY OF BIKEFEST

Haycock Bikefest 2008 is a motorcycle based fund raiser that is geared towards whole family entertainment. We at the Haycock Fire Company hold this event in order to raise funds for equipment and operating costs. As a full volunteer organitation we rely, for the most part, on the generous donations and proceeds from all of our fundraisers. Haycock Bikefest 2004 was held on September 19, 2004 and helped us to gain the resources that were needed to help sustain Haycock Fire Company's operations.

Haycock Bikefest has been an event held by Haycock Fire Company on an annual basis for the past 6 years and has proven to be a benifit to Haycock Fire Company in terms of revenue and community interaction that puts a human face to the members of Haycock Fire Company. It allows motorcycle enthusiasts from all around to gather together to show off their creations, trade stories, and have a good time.

Bikefest has grown to the point where relocation of the event from Silver Creek Athletic Association to Southern Lehigh Livivng Memorial Community Park was necessary to accomadate the spectators, attendees, vendors, displayed fire apparatus and the landing of the Pennsylvania MedEvac helicopter that has visited Haycock Bikefest every year since its inception. The relocation also has made it easier to access Haycock Bikefest, now on Route 309 in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania.

The events that are held at Haycock Bikefest are:
Bike show, Haycock Mountain Run / Haycock Poker Run, Bike Dyno, Motorcycle Burn Out Pit and Bike Games.

The Bike Games are a compilation of skill based activities that test the motorcylists abilities and in some cases involves a passenger. The Keg Roll involves the of the driver rolling an empty beer keg across an open area with the front tire in a race against other contestants at the same time. The Wiener Bite involves both Driver and Passenger. You must ride through a tunnel while the passenger takes a bite from a hotdog that is hanging from a rope in the tunnel.

Other activities such as the car smash allows people to let loose and vent fustrations in a way that normally would be offensive, smashing a car to a lump of metal. There are refreshments and the vendor booths to stroll through as well as taking closer looks at the Bikes that are there. Surrounding Fire Companies and other organizations contribute their time and equipment as displays which allow the public to get a closer look at the machines behind firefighting. The biggest attraction in this display is the MedEvac helicopter that lands right there on the event grounds and allows a closer look at the helicopter. It is wild to see it land and take off, sure bring adventure to a young childs eye. Although they DO NOT offer any rides on the helicopter you can touch it and see the inside of it making it reality instead of just a sight in the sky.

The Bikefest committee is still deciding on a date for 2009
